South West Cape Circuit & South Coast Track

I am planning to do this trip in Tasmania again this year having done this for the first time in January 2008. I liked it so much I had to do it again. Presently this is a solo beginning 8th December and finishing on the 23rd of December. I would prefer company but it is too good to not do just because everyone else has other plans. I also feel it is a safe area as it is milder terrain and climate than the Arthur Ranges. http://www.geocities.com/qld_bwc/ for walk descriptions

Arriving at Melaleuca at about 2:30 I camped at Horshoe Inlet, then made my way to Noyheener Beach on the 9th with horrendous weather in the South West Cape Range. Even with a white out the track was mostly picked up and I was glad to get the tent up about 3-4 pm.

th Dec - half day to Spain Bay return. Have to make sure I take the sand blowouts closest to Chatfield Pt in future as my routes were on the coast (too much scrambling) and too close to Hannant Inlet (Swampy & scrub bashing). Of these options I preferred the scrambling.

th Dec - Easy day to Window Pane Bay. Weather was perfect

th Dec. Got to Wilsons Bight by 2:30pm. Easier than last year. Next time I am going to try the shortcut avoiding Mt Karamu (obvious track from SW Cape Range)First people seen on walk so far today.

th Dec - Wilsons Bight to Melaleuca - met Simon and Solveiga

th Dec - Short day (3 hours) to Eric Point. Busy with another party (2) and Tas Expeditions (10)

th Dec - Half day to Louisa Bay. Best track was one after a knoll heading East.

th Dec - Louisa Bay to Deadmans over the Ironbounds. Weather was wet, cold and windy but still not as hard as people suggest.

th Dec - Last day with Simon and Solveiga. Crossed New River Lagoon in boats with them and the other party from Cox Bight. I went on to Osmiridium Beach.

th Dec - Osmiridium to Surprise Bay (easy)

th Dec - Surprise to Granite Beach (Easiest)

th Dec - Granite Beach to South Cape Rivulett across South Cape Range. Arrived about lunchtime. Got to know Awhina and Matt from NZ.

th Dec - rest day (explored coast to Lion Rock)

nd Dec - walk to Cockle Creek and bus to Hobart.
